Why Do We Stumble So Easily In Iniquity?

Iniquity means: gross injustice or wickedness, a violation of right or duty;

We belong to God and are His children. He commands us to be Holy and righteous for His names sake.

When we live in our iniquities we have violated God’s Law and Will for our lives. We hinder His ability to bless us and to use us in His good work.
We find ourselves in a lonely place full of sorrow.

So why do we stumble so easily knowing the state it allows us to be in?

James 1:14 … every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

We know that God is faithful and yet we often allow our iniquities to kept us from God. God gives us warnings to keep away from the sins that can take hold of us. He used David to teach us how our iniquities burden us (Psalm 38:4), take hold of us(Psalm 40:12-13), and cause us to be afflicted (Psalm 10:17).  When we look over our sin and allow ourselves to be compassed about with our sin, we experience troubles and often wonder why God would allow such a thing to occur to us.

 We can not be sin free, but we can be free from the iniquities that will keep us from God.  Following David’s example we must first repent of our sin and seek God’s face again.

Psalm 51:9-12 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Then we must learn and remember that we can avoid living in iniquity.

God reminds us of our freedom from sin in  Gal. 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Also in Romans 6:12-14 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

God promised to make a way to bear all things… I Cor. 10:13 … God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

If we have fellowship with God daily in prayer and reading of His word we can stand without being taken away in iniquity, by excising our faith in prayer. II Thess. 1:11 and Matt. 7:7 tells us that faith can give us power;  power to overcome anything, power to bear all things, and most of all power to be free from the burden of sin.

If we live each day putting God first, we can keep ourselves from stumbling. We can continue in the path God has set for us, and avoid the burden of sin in our lives.
