Our Prayer Life
Prayer is the mightiest force that mankind can use and a privilege unparalleled.
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. I Tim. 2:8
Prayer is an attitude of the heart, as well as an act of worship.
There are many reasons we should pray…
The Lord commands it: I Thess. 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
To request God’s help and to offer thanks unto God for the things He has given us: Phil. 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
To carry the burdens of our brethren to the Lord: Gal. 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
We are reminded again in Luke 18:1 to pray always, men ought always to pray. All throughout the bible we are given examples of those who prayed and sought the Lord for help and for fellowship with God. Jesus himself would pray to the Father and would often go to a place where He could be alone with the Father in prayer.
Do you only pray as you carry on other activities? Do you ever spend time alone with God? Do you pray believing He is able? We can not have a fruitful relationship with God without having a true prayer life. Jesus tells us to get alone with God and pray to the Father, (Matt. 6:6). Reminding us that we should spend time every day alone with God in prayer, not being depended upon the prayers we shared at church or with others. We ourselves are to stop and sit with God and talk to Him; not in vain or in repetition, but in a sincere and open manner in which God can be glorified in our hearts. Do you pray the same prayer each time you pray? Jesus reminds us not to use words of repetition, (Matt. 6:7). When you ask God to help a friend or loved one are you just speaking the same old words or are you being real with God? Do you sincerely poor out your heart to God and ask for His help and His will to be done? There is nothing wrong with a quick simple prayer, asking God to help you or others or even thanking Him. However if the only prayers you offer to God are quick, simple, and repeated request you have not practiced that which Christ has taught us to do.
We as Christians have been given this special privilege of being able to talk to God and to seek His face whenever we want. We have been encouraged and reminded to pray throughout the bible. God already knows the things we are in need of (Matt. 6:8), but He still ask us to pray. He ask us to pray! Prayer is a way that the Almighty Father can display His interest in His children’s needs and care. What a honor it is to be loved so much that He wants to hear and talk with us. Do you allow Him to display His love and interest in you through your prayer life or do you just give Him a quick few minutes of your time?
